Fishing in Kuhmo

Kuhmo is home to a number of secluded rivers and rapids that offer the ideal setting for recreational fishing. Untouched taiga forest, is the ideal destination for fly and lure fishing. The clean and clear waters are also ideal for night-time fishing, a truly unforgettable experience. In high season, the larger rapids tend to get busy due to their reputation and popularity. You can expect to catch grayling, brown trout, northern pike, zander and ide.

Our nearest rapids at Pajakkakoski are just a short 10-minute walk away. The rapids are an important migration route for fish and were chosen by the Finnish Federation for Recreational Fishing as the best local fishing spot in 2017. To protect our local fish stocks, fishing here is carried out in line with sustainable principles. To this end, only catch & release is allowed at Akonkoski rapids.

Our nightless night expeditions in summer are particularly popular.

A common fishing permit specifically designed for visitors covers the rapids in the Kuhmo area from 10 April until 30 August. This single permit provides you with convenient access to a wide three rapids of fishing waters in Kuhmo. The cost of a three-day permit is EUR 50.

The cost, scope and duration of the common permit are re-assessed and set every year.
